ACOSS has welcomed Labor’s announcement of a $10 billion investment to increase housing supply and called for a significant further investment in social and affordable housing.
“We welcome the scale of Labor’s commitment and the recognition that new housing supply must be part of the solution,” said ACOSS CEO Dr Cassandra Goldie.
ACOSS welcomes the Greens’ climate and energy commitment to fight the climate crisis and cut climate emissions to net zero by 2035, but calls for greater equity in its implementation.
The ALP’s home battery subsidy announced today will support a faster transition to clean energy and help lower power bills for all. We also need greater investment in thermal efficiency, electric appliances and solar for those struggling the most.
With the federal election campaign now underway, ACOSS is urging all parties and candidates to deliver real solutions to address the hardship people are facing, rising inequality and climate change, and to resist stoking fear and division.
The Coalition’s budget in reply contained no plan for supporting those on the lowest incomes or addressing the housing affordability crisis.
